SXSWi–Day One
Posted on 12. Mar, 2011 by The Relationship Era in Blog, Principles & Ideas, Trends
Good first day at SXSWi. I’m a first-timer and wasn’t quite expecting this big of a deal or as much walking.
If there’s a session you want to see, get there early or you’ll be checking the SXSW Go app shopping for an alternative.
Three sessions/three moments:
1. Writing Workshop with @BettyDraper: Saying It Short
Fun, spirited discussion. I’m notoriously long-winded…or keyboarded, so good to get some perspective from Helen Klein Ross (Ad Broad). Helen had us pair up and reimagine the bio in one sentence. Great exercise.
2. Social Games: Manipulating Your Brain Chemistry, For Good
Interesting, thoughtful conversation. Michael Fergusson (Ayogo Games, Inc.)—eloquent and insightful comments throughout—addressing behavioral change pointed out the challenge of using gaming to encourage a better/healthier lifestyle. Diabetes is a cumulative horror, but you have to break it down to the instance—stop the one heavily sugared coffee and you’ve done something. Instance intervention?
3. Block Party Capitalism: Where Analog and Digital Intersect
Excellent, engaged panel. Mark Armstrong (Longreads). “The first 15 years of Web content was intended for consumption in the five minutes when you’re boss wasn’t looking.” Nicely said. Also loved Maura McCarthy’s (Blu Homes) comments on pursuing long-term value at the expense of potential short-term gains. Need a cool, green house delivered to your doorstep and unfolded, look them up: www.bluhomes.com
OK, that was two moments.
