Fast approaching is TEDMED 2011. Each year, TEDMED gathers leaders on the forefront of medical innovation to explore ideas on the horizon of health and medicine. This year, imc²’s Brady Walcott, Lisa Flaiz, Bonnie Sayers and Hensley Evans will attend the four-day event in San Diego, Calif. from October 25 to 28. We sat down with Brady Walcott, vice president of imc² health & wellness, to gather his insights about this year’s event:
Year after year, you are adamant about attending TEDMED…why?
TEDMED is the one event that I feel truly challenges my way of thinking. The conference brings together thought leaders and innovators from across the globe and from different backgrounds, all with the collective goal of uncovering new approaches to the unique challenges in healthcare. The format is such that you never really know what’s coming next and, in essence, keeps you guessing. I come away from TEDMED inspired and excited about the role that I play in the larger healthcare landscape.
What was your biggest takeaway from TEDMED 2010?
Although it is hard to single out any one piece of innovation, I’d have to say it’s how new models of learning are bridging the gaps between the art and science of medicine. Hearing from clinicians, engineers, and game mechanics experts on the same stage is attention grabbing, as each share their understanding of the human form and approach to healing methods.
Which current industry hot topic are you most interested in hearing and learning more about?
The impact of technology on healthier outcomes is as fascinating to me as the issue of protecting privacy while sharing medical data simultaneously. I’m interested to hear what Aneesh Chopra and David Agus will bring to the table as speakers on these topics.
