Home Depot or Lowe’s

If you’re like us, any DIY project will mean at least nine trips to the big box home improvement store…maybe ten. We put the two biggest competitors in this space on “the fence” this month and would like to hear your thoughts.

Lowe’s, for sure. Yes, it’s for very girlie reasons, but I feel Lowe’s has more stylish options for whatever I need. So no, I don’t go there looking for power drills or lumber, but I do find great light and plumbing fixtures as well as interesting plants at Lowe’s. Unfortunately for me, I have to pass THREE Home Depots before I reach a single Lowe’s in my area.

I like them both for different reasons! I like Home Depot for power tools and builders grade items and I like Lowe’s for Home and patio decor. The fact is, though, there are more Home Depot locations near me and I also have to drive past 2 Home Depot’s to go to a Lowes.

Lowe’s is the clear winner. I’ve had too many bad experiences with Home Depot, that my trust in them is gone. Lowe’s has come through when HD failed on installs/special orders. Also, a few years ago you couldn’t find an associate in HD when needed, now they have gone to the opposite extreme – you can’t move 10 feet without someone trying to help you.

I have the opposite situation from most, Lowe’s is the closest–I thought they were supposed to next door to each other. And in general, Lowe’s has a better selection and the prices are competitive. In my experience, service is uneven and depends on department…at both stores.
