The Next Big Thing
Posted on 28. Mar, 2011 by Matt Whitaker.
SXSW is generally the proving ground for introducing the next “It” technology and I haven’t yet seen anything emerge as a clear winner for this year. So maybe the breakout hit of SXSW this year isn’t a new device that Oprah will start to use, but perhaps a theme. Collectively we can change the world through our actions.

Brand Distance: It Ain’t What It Used to Be
Posted on 24. Mar, 2011 by The Relationship Era.
Driving home from a spring break ski trip last week, I saw something that I’ve never seen. Not quite shocking, but a bit surprising. See images to the right and below. A (on the right) is fairly typical. B (below) or “bee” is not. Yes, it’s a truckload of mostly contained honeybees. I say mostly [...]

SXSWi In a Nutshell
Posted on 21. Mar, 2011 by Dan Patterson.
I heard three common themes come out of SXSWi this year; it’s grown a lot, sessions were hit or miss, and there was no breakout technology. I’ll add my two cents to each of these. First, the logistics of getting around or grabbing something to eat quickly have been impacted by the large crowds. Having [...]

SXSWi Day Three…My Last Day (Sunday, March 13)
Posted on 16. Mar, 2011 by The Relationship Era.
I headed downtown for the early session with my “lost” sunglasses back in my possession and a handful of chocolate chip cookies from checkout. Thanks Double Tree! I had a brief face to face with one of Austin’s traffic enforcers. Note to self: next year, book earlier so you can walk everywhere. But that might [...]

SXSWi Day Two (Saturday, March 12)

Olgivy deserves some credit for visually capturing session content in their notes—great idea and nice analog connection to the digital world. They have artists attending certain sessions capturing points by drawing out the discussion and dialog arc on large white boards as the conversation happens. It’s hard enough for me to take notes in a [...]

SXSWi–Day One
Posted on 12. Mar, 2011 by The Relationship Era.
Good first day at SXSWi. I’m a first-timer and wasn’t quite expecting this big of a deal or as much walking. If there’s a session you want to see, get there early or you’ll be checking the SXSW Go app shopping for an alternative. Three sessions/three moments: 1. Writing Workshop with @BettyDraper: Saying It Short [...]

Two people. Separate coasts. One vision: putting social media to work. We mentioned Susan Silver a while back [Marketing with a Future] but wanted to briefly highlight her latest initiative and what we think is an interesting approach in a period when our industry is in transition and the economy is still struggling to create [...]
